Uchi Strikes

- 1 min read

Uchi-waza indicates all strikes that employ an open hand position. This is page describes all the diffrent hand positions of Uchi techniques, without giving execution details, because of these three reasons:

  1. The movement of the strike is exclusevely dependant on the hand position
  2. All open hand strikes shouldn’t be used in Kumite because they are both dangerous to the attacker and to the receiver
  3. All open hand strikes should be used in self defense only when you have deep mastery of the technique: this includes the proper conditioning of the technique’s specific contact point and the understanding of the permanent damage that such technique would cause

Where to use (✅ - Use; ❌ - Don’t use; 🟨 - Last resource):

  • Sport Kumite: ❌
  • Full-Contact Kumite: ❌
  • Self-Defense: âś… (if you have mastery of said technique)
