Morote-Gari

- 1 min read

Morote-Gari is the Karate double leg takedown. Such technique may be performed in Kumite but it’s dangerous because by lowering your leg you expose your head to kicks. In the self defense, it’s usually best not to perform throws, because of their complexity (that under stress you hardly manage to handle) and for the damage that you could cause to the attacker (you are not on a tatami mattress, depending on how the aggressor bumps his head could lead to sever injury or even death)

Execution:

  • Lower yourself and pull the legs of your opponent at their knee level
  • Procede with striking

Where to use (βœ… - Use; ❌ - Don’t use; 🟨 - Last resource):

  • Sport Kumite: 🟨 (if allowed)
  • Full-Contact Kumite: 🟨 (if allowed)
  • Self-Defense: ❌
