- 1 min read

Choku-Tsuki is the front punch of Karate. It doens’t require hip movement and its more of a kihon or exercise move than one suited for actual use in self defense or Kumite.

Traditional execution:

  • Get in Heiko Dachi
  • Close both your fists
  • Extend one arm while performing an hiki-te with your other arm
  • Kiai! at maximum extention (optional)
  • While retracting perform another move (e.g: another Choku-Tsuki)

Where to use (✅ - Use; ❌ - Don’t use; 🟨 - Last resource):

  • Sport Kumite: 🟨
  • Full-Contact Kumite: 🟨
  • Self-Defense: ❌
